Why Choose a Certification Course Over a Licensed Program?

There are several valid reasons why a lash certification course might be the right choice for you:

  1. You’re Already Licensed
If you’re a licensed cosmetologist or esthetician but were never trained in lash extensions—or you're looking to shift your focus from hair or skincare to lashes—a certification course offers targeted, specialized training without the need to start over.
  2. It's Less Intimidating & More Accessible
Certification programs are generally shorter, more affordable, and less overwhelming than full licensing programs. This makes them a great option for those who want to test the waters before committing to a long-term career in lashes.
  3. Fewer Entry Requirements
Licensed programs in Utah (and most other states) require a high school diploma, a Social Security number, or proof of legal residency status. If you don’t yet meet these requirements, a certification course allows you to start learning and practicing now, without waiting.
  4. Try Before You Commit
Our certification class lets you gain hands-on experience and build skills at your own pace. You can practice as much as you like and decide later if pursuing a full license is right for you.
  5. You're Not Planning to Stay in Utah or the U.S. Long-Term
If you're planning to move out of state or out of the country, you may not need a U.S. license. A certification can still provide the training you need to build your skills and start offering lash services elsewhere.

FAQ

What is the difference between a certificate and license?

🔹 License

A license is a legal requirement issued by your state’s cosmetology or esthetics board. It allows you to legally perform lash extensions (and other beauty services) for paying clients in that state.

  • Must pass a state board exam
  • Requires a high school diploma and proof of legal residency or a Social Security number

🔹 Certification

A certification is proof that you completed a training program—usually offered by a private educator or academy (like Honey Bee Beautiful). It shows that you’ve been trained in lash extensions, but does not replace a state license.

  • Not legally required in most places, but valuable for training and experience
  • Typically shorter and more affordable
  • Great for licensed professionals looking to add skills
  • Also helpful for beginners who want to try lash training before committing to a full license
  • Does not legally allow you to charge for lash services in states that require a license

How much practice will I need?

To build strong skills and confidence, I recommend practicing 1–2 hours a day, five days a week. Consistency is key!

Be sure to practice on both mannequins and live models—each offers different learning experiences that will help you grow as a lash artist.

With regular practice, most students begin to see real improvements in their speed and retention within 3 months. After about one year, the process often feels easy like second nature.

What exactly do I receive?

Unlimited shadowing for life

15% student discount for life

Standard size massage table
